Just seeing the cover and brilliant illustrations of the book, Alexander and the wind-up mouse, makes me joyful inside. Yes, I'm a grown-up now, but it evokes memories from me as a little girl. This book was my favorite book, and my mother use to read this book to me over and over until I remember her saying to me one time, "Don't you ever get tired of this book, Carolynn?" Of course I never got tired of it. And I still get excited if I see Alexander and The Wind-Up Mouse on a book shelf somewhere. Why? Because, it's a good memory of the past that I will never forget. A time when my mom would, put down what she was doing, and take me to a land of imagination. The illustrations of this book appealed to me, bright and colorful. And how could my mother object with such great lessons to be learned from this book.
What lessons could be learned from Alexander and The Wind-Up Mouse, you ask? Well, first of all, that it's normal to kind of wish that you have some of the nicer things that others have that you don't. Until, you realize that it's not what you thought it was, that in some ways you may have it a lot better than you previously thought. Second, that friends are good to have, and good friends are worth more than being recognized.
If you can find this book, I recommend that you get it for your child or grandchild. The time you spend with them, they will never forget, and they just might remember some of those lessons, no matter how subtle they are.
