There are a lot of unusual ways to measure things, but the good old boys in the back woods of our state have the best. If you want to save a lot of money and you don't care if the measurement is not to accurate then do as the boys in the woods do. One of the special ways that they would measure things is by taking a string and cutting it to length and then marking the piece of wood then cutting. This is how you can tell that you are a redneck. Another way to tell if you are a redneck is if you use two broken tree limbs duck taped together to make your measurements. The other way to tell that  you are a redneck is but using the foot rule and this is done by walking along side your subject that your are trying to measure and no matter what size shoe that you are wearing that is how many feet long your project is. The other way that they use is by taking the string that they cut to length and taking it out to the john boat parked in their front yard and lying it alongside the permanently attached fish checker to see how long the piece of wood is. If you do any of these types of measuring means, then you can consider yourself in with this bunch of rednecks.

Now on the other hand if you want to get yourself out of this bunch of rednecks, then just go  on line and type in www.Johnsonlevel.comand you can learn about tape measures and you will also see where you can purchase a Johnson level tape measure. One of the place that sells this brand name of tape measure is www.amazon.comfor only about $15.00 this is the 1807-0025 series Johnson "Big J Blade" 1-3/16" wide. I always like a tool that is big enough to read without bifocals. This is known as the biggest of the bad when it comes to tape measures.

Description
This tape measure weigh in at a whopping 1 whole pound and is 2" wide. It also measures 3 ¼" in height and 3" from the front to the back.  Sitting on the top of this stainless clad case coated in rubber, there is a 1" wide locking button for easier locking usage. The tape measure will stay rigid when between 8 to 9 feet of tape measure is extended before it falls to the ground.

This has a stainless steel sided case that is covered in a rubber coating that will help prevent shocks or rust. When dropped from a tall ladder all this does is bounce. The tape itself has numbers on both sides facing in different directions and has 1/16" black marks and the usual 16" marks for the standardized marking for putting studs in the accurate spots. This comes with an extra wide blade measuring in at 1 3/16" wide and no need for any bifocals to read this tape measure.

The tape measure is grayish in color and the blade is yellow on the front side and white on the back. The whole blade is coated with nylon to help prevent and nicks or abrasions to the blade. The blade hook had all the advantages of the rest of their tape measures including the extra one that points upward to allow you to hook things on the spots that are to hold onto.

This still has the patented "Tiger Claw" blade hook in place with four stainless rivets one of which is held securely in place and the other three are held loosely in place for the numbers on the blade to be easier to read, inner and outer measurements accurately.  In addition to the magnet, there is an extra hook facing upwards to hook the blade from the top or the sides.

Experience
Yes, I have tried some of the ways mentioned to do some of my measuring in my early days. But since I have gotten older I have gotten smarter. I started purchasing tape measures that fit my purpose. I have all kinds of different sizes and shaped tape measures. But I have found that this bigger one by Johnson level serves the best purpose for me.

Sometimes I can get a little slippery fingers and I have lost a lot other tape measures when they have hit the ground. But since I started using this brand I have dropped and kicked these and even let them get submerged in water and they have kept on working. This particular model (1807) is a little bit heavier and bulkier but all the reason more to get this one.

The smaller ones are harder to find and they get lost easy. Since this one is so big I can read and handle it a lot better. You can stop using those other forms of measuring and start getting it right from the start. Johnson will help you get the most accurate readings as long as you can read a tape measure.

Conclusion
I have found that this bigger tape measure will help those that have a hard time reading tape measures and they will also help you start learning to use it in different way that would never have dreamed of. This will make you stop using string and duct taped twigs to measure things. You will look like a professional even though your roots say redneck. So, open your dusty wallets and spend a little money and get a real good 5 star tape measure.
