LYD recommendations: Banana Leaf has lots to offer especially for those of you who are Thai enthusiasts. However, don’t be intimidated by the unknown if you’re unfamiliar with the cuisine because there are dishes for all tastes! LYD suggests trying something simple but incredibly flavorful like the Yellow Curry to test your taste buds to Thai cuisine. By allowing the customer to choose their spice level, Banana Leaf is accessible to anyone ready for a food adventure!

If you want to know the taste of fiery and distinctively flavorful Thai food, check out Banana Leaf in North Dallas. It has even been honored with the title of the best Thai restaurant by the Dallas Observer 2 years in a row! The main cuisine of Thailand is notable for their hot as fire chili peppers and other aromatic ingredients which balance with the soft decadence of coconut milk, infused rices, sweet fruits, sour vinegars, and lightly salted pan-fried meats and fishes. It is not a coincidence that hot and tropical climates usually produce spicy foods since it is a digestive stimulant and and natural preservative in regions where the weather prohibits these things. Peppers also grow best in hot climates, so environments with warmer temperatures traditionally become epicenters for the spicy cultures that feature them.

If you like a little history lesson as a side dish to your main meal, then let us tell you that Banana Leaf is located along the historic Preston Road which follows the original route of the Preston Trail closely, a cattle drive trail stemming from the Shawnee Trail that was later used a major military route during the Texas War of Independence. The trail ranges from Mexico and stretches to the Canadian border with many ancillary and lesser trails branching off all across the country . Now known as Highway 289, or Preston Road in the Dallas area, it is a major thoroughfare featuring thousands of modern-day chuck wagons of all different genres, some that the cowboys who originally traversed the trail probably never even imagined. The Dallas community (and LYD!) has embraced these imported cuisines which are now very prominent across the city, with some of the restaurants even featuring the most outstanding dishes you could taste in Dallas! Banana Leaf has its fair share of tasty treats ready for your taste buds to take a little Thai adventure.

Banana Leaf offers an extensive menu for the beginning Thai eater as well as the lover of all things Thai who is already accustomed to serious spice. If you are unsure of where to start, try an appetizer of a crispy Thai Spring Roll, Lemongrass Lettuce Wraps, or Chicken Satay which is Thai marinated chicken on a skewer that is usually served with a peanut sauce that has the tiniest punch of spice. The waitstaff is very helpful, so if you need further assistance they will be a vital commodity for your Thai experience. For your main dish, any of the Chef’s Specialties or entrees will not steer you wrong. Waterfall Beef is one of their distinguishing features as a dish of thinly sliced grilled spicy beef dish in which the beef is sizzled with the most fragrant and elegant Thai spices, herbs, and chili peppers. The hot and SPICY beef is accompanied with sticky jasmine rice and served on a bed of chopped up iceberg and romaine lettuce drizzled with lime dressing and fish sauce. Another notable menu item is the Chicken Thai Fried Rice which contains long grains of rice fried in soy sauce and garlic, tossed with scrambled eggs, fresh tomatoes, green bell peppers, and chopped yellow onions and decorated with white and green onions and sliced cucumbers. But for those of you who truly enjoy spirited special eats, make sure you try the Yellow Curry or Pad See Iew. Yellow curry is a tantalizing mix of yellow curry spices with smooth and creamy coconut milk, diced white onions, and chopped potatoes on top of a ball of Jasmine-steamed rice or Somen noodle. The sauce allows the chicken to swim beautifully while acting as a cooling agent to the spices dancing on your tongue. Pad See Iew is pan-fried flat rice noodle dish sauteed with a colorful veggie mix of onions, bell peppers, carrots, red cabbage, bean sprouts, and broccoli, and seasoned with crushed black pepper and soy bean sauce with your choice of protein. Even if you can’t take the heat, Banana Leaf can accommodate your tastes by allowing you as the patron to choose a spice level on each dish; just be careful if you go for the spice to the max because Thai food can sometimes surprise you and your mouth!
