StarChaser is both functional--the middle section serves as a scratching post--and wildly popular with cats. I never go into the living room anymore without seeing one of our five cats batting the ball, sharpening his claws on the tough, corrugated cardboard interior, or sleeping on it to guard it against incursions by his fellow felines. Each time I check, a different cat is on the toy, so they do manage to share it, although not without a certain amount of thumping and hissing.
Be sure to get some replacement interiors. Our five cats can go through the 'scratching post' part of the product in about a month.
You will find bits of cardboard scattered around the StarChaser, but what the heck, if you've got cats you're going to be doing extra vacuuming anyway.
Warning: do not keep StarChaser in your bedroom, unless you want to watch flashing lights and listen to 'rip rip,' 'roll roll roll roll,' 'thump hiss' all night long.
