Tomato sauce can be fantastic or flavorless, divine or dreary, and is often revered as a skill to master. Restaurant-style sauces are much more appealing to the senses, but often difficult to replicate at home for special occasions and a near impossibility … see full wiki

I have never in my entire life eaten any jarred pasta sauce (which those of Italian descent call "gravy".) So for someone like me, the Bertolli sauce is true culture shock.    It was on sale, and you could microwave it. I figured if I'm really, really desperate for something to make fast, this might not be a bad idea to try.    I tried this on some boxed Italian penne, the typical pound of pasta. Now how much to use? One package of the Bertolli wasn't gonna …

No, I won't try and suggest that this is comparable to a freshly prepared sauce. But that said, Bertolli Premium Pasta Sauce outshines any ready-made sauce (from a jar, can or frozen) that I've tried up to now.    We had the Summer Crushed Tomato and Basil, which provided a surprising complexity of taste and texture. Most convenient sauces tend toward the bland, like they came out of a giant blender (which I guess they did), and most of them do little more than inspire the term …

I tried the new microwave pouch of Bertolli Premium Pasta Sauce, Summer Crushed Tomato & Basil, 13.5-Ounce Pouches (Pack of 6) for last night for dinner. I cooked up some fresh linguini and sweet Italian sausage and topped it with the sauce. I found the flavor light, fresh and summery tasting but certainly still robust enough to satisfy--I enjoyed it very much. I even had a second serving, which I almost never do!    However, in regard to the packaging, I feel the need to note …

The first thing I did with this was check the ingredients. NO MSG, NO High Fructose Corn Syrup. All good and basic ingredients that you'd expect to find in a homemade sauce. That is a big plus in my book an just about justifies what I consider the premium price.    I used this package to make home made pizza and it was delicious. I had a little leftover sauce so would rather have this in a bottle or jar, but understand the idea behind the microwavable bag. If someone I know wanted …

Bertolli Premium Pasta Sauce, Summer Crushed Tomato & Basil gets very high marks for being quick and convenient to prepare. All you have to do is cut off the edge of the pouch, microwave it for 90 seconds, and you're done. And better yet, you can microwave it in the pouch so there is nothing to clean up afterwards.    The sauce itself, I hate to say, lacks something to be desired. The consistency of the sauce is a bit on the watery and runny side. To really mix it up good with …

Bertolli Summer Crushed Tomato and Basil Pasta Sauce    Easy to Fix and Good to Eat    What is better on a cold, snowy day than some really good pasta? School is closed today and I can't get to the grocery and then I remembered that I had not tried to Bertolli pasta sauce that I received from Amazon.com.  I was amazed at how easy it is to prepare--simply cut the pouch open and microwave for a minute and a half, I actually used it over pasta and veal …

There are other brands of these microwavable pouches of sauce, but I tried Bertolli because I've always been satisfied with their products. The taste will please many people, but I'm not convinced about the concept, and how convenient it really is.    A jar is more convenient in many ways -- you can screw the lid back on and keep a part-used jar in the fridge, and you can see at a glance how much is left. With this pouch, if you only use part of the contents, it's not so convenient …
