Same-sex Marriage? In my videogame? It's more likely than you think.

I largely recall this game due to its developer, Troika Games, who were known for having brilliant games that were ultimately buggy. Temple of Elemental Evil was one of these projects. Many of its creators came from previous projects such as Fallout, so it's curious to see that both Fallout 2 and this title had the option of same-sex marriage (the former literally being a shotgun wedding). While controversy did surround it, I would be hard-pressed to say it didn't help when more same-sex romances came down the road in later games.

Bertram himself was a nice nod at not trying to be stereotypical and just having him there. They weren't trying to make a big comment, yet his very presence made enough of one that it stood out.
