Born Gangstaz is debut album released by gangsta emcee Boss, rreleased on July 26, 1993, on Def Jam Recordings' West Coast-based sub-label DJ West and featured production from some of hip hop's top producers at the time, including Def Jef, Erick Sermon and Jam Master Jay. Born Gangstaz was a success, peaking at #22 on the Billboard 200 and #3 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. Despite the success of this album, Boss has yet to release another album. According to Nielsen SoundScan, Born Gangstaz has sold 378,000 copies to date.
Three singles were released from the album, "Deeper," "Recipe of a Hoe," and "Progress of Elimination," the first of the two both topping the Hot Rap Singles chart.

I clearly remember hip hop's transition from the more innocent, and even militant persona bestowed upon it by East Coast rappers, into the more aggressive art form introduced by West Coast rappers, most notably NWA in the mid to late 80's. It was definitely a change I don't recall many being prepared for. In any case, what would soon be christianed "Gangsta Rap", would take the music world by storm and it no doubt sold records (lots of records!). …
