Wikipedia states that "Canada day is the national day of Canada, a federal statutory holiday celebrating the anniversary of the July 1, 1867, enactment of the British North America Act (today called the Constitution Act, 1867), which united three British colonies into a single country, called Canada, within the British Empire." Therefore, it is celebrating the Founding of the Country. I guess we can equate it to the unit\ing of the 13 colonies into a single nation. As Canada is a merger of British Colonies, Quebec may not be so happy about it (I remember them having a vote to secede from Canada because of their French culture and language). Probably this holiday is big in Toronto and Vancouver.
