A weekly podcast about Cars, hosted by Adam Carolla

In July of 2009 Adam Carolla introduced a new weekly automotive-oriented segment to his podcast called CarCast. The first week's show topped the iTunes charts. The podcast's theme song is The Rascal King by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones.

This guy in my car won't shut up... and I like it

I like cars.   I like the performance, I like the styling, I like the technology... I just don't know crap about cars.  But I did figure out enough to load Adam Carolla's podcast onto my iPhone so I can listen to his Carcast in my car during my commute.

Carolla is able to combine his immense knowledge about cars with his unique ability to yap on about any subject matter and make it interesting into a very enjoyable and informative weekly podcast.  The shows generally tend to follow a pretty standard format.
  • Weekly guest and their featured ride
  • Investment cars of the week
  • Call-in questions
  • Celebrity first car
  • Featured car from Adam's collection
So far, Adam has been able to bring a wide variety of high-quality guests to speak about everything from racing, to extreme performance, to "green cars", to emerging technology.  Some of the more interesting topics have really piqued my interest in bio-diesel, Ford's racing history, and Chevrolet's 2011 Volt.  Adam is knowledgeable enough to be able to speak on any topic, but knows when to throw in a trademark rant or dry wit joke to keep the conversation fresh and lively.  Adam's sidekick, "The Professor" Sandy Ganz, adds plenty of technical color to the podcast while infusing the podcast with his own preference for big american muscle and the best from Germany and Italy.

I listen to the show in my car, but those who access it from their computeres, can watch snippets of the show via streaming video.  It definitely makes the featured car walkthroughs much more interesting.  I tend to check out the photos quickly after listening to an episode.  More than once, though, I've been prompted to run a few google searches to check out some of the cars that come up during the podcast.

While I can't afford to keep up with their "Investment Car" piece, it is still fun to dream.  I often find myself doing searches on eBay motors... just in case my Honda Accord dies on me and a window of opportunity opens for me.  The celebrity first car is mostly just filler from the Adam Carolla Podcast, but occasionally they'll have an interesting story to tell.  Adam's Featured Car section is really a highlight of the show because you can hear his passion and excitement when he talks about his own babies.  I'd love to be able to get a tour of his warehouse to check out all his fun toys.

The show tackles the auto industry from several different angles.   Anyone with an interest in cars, regardless of technical knowledge, should check out the weekly show.  I always find myself looking forward to Saturday for the weekly download.

Since when did Adam Carolla start talking about cars?  I followed him from Loveline and Man Show up till he had his own show, which professed itself to sound like "a semester of junior college".  I guess this guy can talk about anything entertainingly.  I'm not a big fan of car shows, but I'm sure I would love this.  Thanks for sharing!

It really sounds like he's starting to make Podcasting his full time gig. He started with the daily Adam Carolla Podcast which might be a better fit if you're a fan of the "Ace Man" but not terribly interested in cars. He has some great guests on his show. And it sounds like he's also kicking off separate Sports and Home Improvement podcasts as well. Hopefully he'll channel more of his Mr. Bircham for the home improvement one.
