What a difference between early Chicago and the latter day baladeering band that claims the same name. Chicago 2 is fully loaded with stunning guitar work by Terry Kath, awesome horn and flute arrangments, and super vocal performances. Terry Kath carries the lion's share of the lead vocals and is especially strong on Colour My World, Make Me Smile, Movin'In, and The It Better End Soon Suite. Peter Cetera and Robert Lamm also contribute nicely on other tracks.
What really hammers the experience home for me is the numerous styles. Sometimes big band flavored, other times Chicago sounds like an essemble adding pleasing string quartet stylings. Then of course there are the many ferocious rockers featuring super guitar solos mixed in with nice piano and brass.
If you are going to forego the compilation route, this is a Chicago collection to grab at once.
