An album by Kudzu and Peter Griggs

Kudzu has always composed and performed very visual music. His Evolutions was a wonderful excursion into an electro-acoustic tribal dreamscape. On his latest CD, a collaboration with guitarist Peter Griggs, Kudzu returns to that jungle ambience while … see full wiki

From the "Treecastle Soundtrek Series", "Children of the Amazon" is an extremely visual tour of the deepest, darkest part of the Amazon jungle and a lost tribe that lives there. Exotic, complex, and rhythmic, this album demands the full attention of the listener - and it is very easy to give in to that demand. When asked how he creates such vivid "soundtracks" that pull the listener in, Kudzu explains, "It takes the ability to see music as a visual medium", and he may do this better than anyone at this point. With so much music being "ear candy" that takes no effort or thought on the listener's part, and so much media removing any chance of interactive creativity, it is a joy to find an artist who expects the listener to actively participate in interpreting what the music is actually about. And what it is about can change and evolve with each new hearing. I find this very exciting! The layers of instrumentation and sound effects are impossible to digest in one listen, so the journey and discovery can deepen and intensify each time you play this incredible CD.

The instrumentation is mostly synths and keyboards as well as native percussion, in combination with Peter Griggs' acoustic guitar. The sound of water flowing, thunder, exotic animals and birds, voices, and other effects add to the atmosphere of darkness and dampness. While the overall feel of the album is a little dangerous and mysterious, it is not without hope or excitement. Children always find the light. Stunning in its intensity, "Children of the Amazon" will take you on a journey into your own imagination, supplying the atmosphere, sounds, and a basic storyline that you can build and embellish on. Enjoy the adventure!
