Singapore Airlines tried to merge with this airline but deal was rejected a few years ago. However, it's probably a blessing in disguise as this airline has since got bad rep for its safety and on time records. If you buy air tickets often enough, you'd notice that China Eastern Airlines often command less (ie. it has to offer more discounts) than other airlines from the same city, especially Shanghai. In addition, its cancellation policy is the worst!
