I grew up in the south of Holland, near the Belgian border. Every other weekend we visited towns like Antwerp, Brussels and Bruges. The reason I'm telling you this: I know my way around Belgian chocolates. Trust me, these are the best. First the taste. Not too sweet and not too bitter. Each and every one a heavenly delight. The fillings soft and soooo delicious, any taste will do. The classic truffles, the crunchy Caprice, the Manons with the mousse au chocolat - hmmmmm!!!! where's my BOX?! As to the quality of the cacao: Top Notch - enough said! This small package is a good start. It looks nice (also as a gift) and there are enough for your love and you (that is if she - or he - is still willing to share after having tried the first). And it is strong enough so it doesn't get crushed along the way. The price? Don't compare it with cheap chocolate. That's humiliating. Try it and then decide if it's worth it. I am sure you will agree: these chocolates are priceless! ENJOY! Where is my BOX!!!!????!!!!! Give it BACK! I WANT MOOOOORE!!!!!!

I'm envious of your chocolatey upbringing! I use to travel to that part of Europe with my family when I was younger and we'd always buy chocolates in bulk to bring back to the States for gifts. I'm not sure if I've ever had Neuhaus though. I'll really have to track down your recommendations because they all sound fantastic. By the way, something tells me that you'll appreciate this review of Max Brenner ;) Thanks for sharing, Andre!

Thanks, Devora, for showing me Max Brenner. Sounds goooood! Although I have to say I'm more of a purist when it comes to chocolate. By the way, they have a Salon du Chocolat in Paris Oct. 28 - Nov.1 at the Porte de Versailles exhibition hall... Best wishes!

Oops, Betty - sorry. I devoured them but was too ashamed to just send you an empty box.. As to my sweet Cookie - the rabbit. She passed away in January - but she's always with me - that I know. I bought the survivor (Woopy) a new friend. They are the same age, both have a similar history and after having sprayed them with cinnamon they now have become the best of friends.

Oh, Andre, so sorry about your Cookie, but am happy you gave a new rabbit a home. That will keep Woopy's nose twitching, I'm sure. What did you name your new pet/friend? It's OK about eating MY choccie; I understand that completely! :-)

Absolutely they are Fantastic and like you said you should not compare the price of this to inferior chocolates, that's like comparing great vine with soft drinks. My all time favorites though are from the Belgian master Chocolatier Pierre Marcolini, his chocolates are real artworks and though they are pricy they are totally worth it like Neuhaus.
