Some "remedies" give symptomatic relief but they are usually a waste of money. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is an antihistamine and does not shrink nasal passages. it is useful for allergic rhinitis and causes some sleepiness (thus its use in tylenol PM). For a cold with nasal congestion, try nasal irrigation with saline. Look it up. Look up Neti pot. that works. And Sudafed (pseudoephedrine) may be dangerous.
Most seasons when others catch a cold or the flu, I remain healthy. This year is not one of those years because the other day I came down with a major case of the sniffles which led to the most congested nasal passages I have ever experienced. I can handle feeling stuffed up during the day but trying to sleep and not being able to breathe through my nose is a tremendous discomfort so that night I took an over the counter decongestant similar to Sudafed.
