The appreciation of Competition (or the need to compete) is the same as any other human trait and nature; it needs to be wielded with responsibility. It can be healthy and has its advantages, but using it without responsibility can only become a means to feed one's ebbing ego. Humans are conditioned to compete from young in most society. Generally, some competes for recognition, for vanity, for improvement, for monetary rewards, for all kind of reasons under the sun. Competition is not bad per se; problem arises when people compete unfairly or unethically. Under controlled condition, competition is beneficial to mankind.
