Costco mattresses can be worth buying blind

As someone who really likes the quality and affordability of Costco, I was hoping to get my mattress from them.   The downside, of course, is that you can't actually try out the mattress in advance -- you pretty much need to be willing to order it blind, based on your known preferences.  Here is a summary of my experience

Upsides:
1.  Price:  You can get significantly more mattress for the money at CostCo than you would at a local mattress store.   It can be hard to do direct comparisons because the mattess makers intentionally come up with tons of different models to frustrate your attempts, but you can typically go to their website, see how they categorize different models, and compare pricing for models in the same category.

2.  Warranty/returnability:  CostCo offers their typical return at any time for any reason policy for the mattress.  Other mattress stores have complicated return policies that involve getting only a percentage of your money back.  Even for some of the more expensive mattresses with more exhaustive money back guarantees, there are all kinds of caveats that can trip you up.
See here for details:

And for the CostCo return policy, see their web site or the email exchange here:

Downsides:
1.  Delivery:  While the CostCo web site claims that delivery is available M-F 9-5, this isn't actually the case.  Each individual CostCo has different policies for different areas.  In our area, delivery was only available on Wednesday and every other Saturday, and they gave you a 4 hour window with a 30 minute warning.   Also, they won't cart off or dispose of your old bed.

2.  Trying the bed out:  You can't walk into CostCo and try out the bed -- you need to be able to pick your bed by trying it out at a friends, or having a general idea of what you want from local mattress stores.

3.  Timing:  It will typically be 3-4 weeks before you will have the mattress, and you need to set up the bed frame yourself (easy and < 10 minutes).  Many mattress stores offer same week delivery.

Regardless of these downsides, the pricing and warranty can make a CostCo bed a great purchase.
