A lot of people don't know that there is a big difference in having a regular 3/8" ratchet and having an air operated one. You can purchase an off brand name air ratchet at just about any place that sells hand tools. The way you can tell if you good one, is that you will see the brand highlighted real big. The off brand names most of the time are in really small print and there is a good possibility that you have never heard of them. I have spent over thirty years in the construction industry and this particular type of air ratchet is just type of ratchet that all of the mechanics carry in their tool boxes.  If you are looking for a Craftsman tool that will help you out under the hood of a car, this might be the one for you. If you are a fanatic such just like me, then you will love this air operated 3/8" drive ratchet by Sears, this can also be found at K-Mart for less than $29.99. You used to be only able to find these at any Sears, but since they have merged with a whole bunch of different store such as K-Mart and Ace Hardware the availability is tremendous. The prices and warranty still remain the same, but you have remember that even though this is technically a hand tool, this only has a one year warranty on it. If you were to purchase any Craftsman product at any of these retailers, you will not need a receipt just take it back to the store and they will replace the product, as long as it has been only one year. The actual hand tools that usually have no moving parts to them are the ones that have a lifetime warranty.

This particular air ratchet will need air tool oil to prevent the inner workings from rusting and bring the ultimate torque power to the ratchet drive. This housing to this air ratchet is made of metal and this has a hard body with a rubber coating. Each of these air ratchets are made to produce 45ft/lbs if maximum torque. The 3/8" drive has a 160 rpm and 360° exhaust ports. This air ratchet is exactly balanced and has a air cushioned rubber coated handle. The whole tool has a black head and a grey body and is very easy to clean. The handle end is covered with a hard rubber and makes it easier to grip, that has a stainless steel trigger,  to make the operation of this air ratchet immediate. The total weight of this ratchet is only 2.5 pounds.
This is an excellent tool to keep inside of the top of your tool box. I have all different types of air tools and they all say Craftsman on the side. There is no room for you to use this in really tight spots, so you will need some room to get the head with a socket attached to it out of the work area. But, as long as you can get this into a tight spot you will be able to drive that bolt home. That is the only problem with this tool, space, but this problem can be solved by only using this tool in certain applications. Don't expect too much from this tool, and you will be happy that you spent the money to get it. I simply love this air ratchet from Craftsman.

I have been using these for several years and not one time did the inner mechanism freeze up on me. These are made of hardened steel and are very durable. I have left these under the hood of the car, and all of my projects around the house. I have accidentally dropped this and kicked it around, this would just bounce off of the floor or ground and when I finally got this under control it had some scratches on the body from hitting the ground, but mainly still intact, no chips or bent trigger were found. If you are using the right size socket this will usually serve any application that you put it through as long as you have the room to slide the head in and out of the hole that it needs to be.  You will need to make sure that you have enough room for the head to fit into, the spot where you are trying to use this may be too small and an accident will be into the making.

The really nice thing about this tool is that it does do several tasks but, basically the clearance for the head of this tool is very important. You may use this tool frequently, but when you do happen onto one of these types of jobs, you will be happy that you have one of these air ratchets inside of your tool set. This is probably the most used part of my tools because it is so handy and versatile. A lot of times I do not have time to cut and remove any existing body parts out of the way and since this will take different length extensions helps this work out a lot better. But, by having an air ratchet that is balanced and feels good in my hand, one good squeeze of the trigger will usually keep the project in line, and this ratchet is all I need to make a repair. This tool is only versatile to an extent, because of the room that you need to make this work properly. I have had some problems with working in small spaces, with this air ratchet and to freely swing the whole body and air hose, this whole tool needs some area to operate properly. Plus, the air ratchet will slip and may strike something that it is not supposed to, such as an electrical line, if you don't have the proper angle on the tool. So I have to be very careful when I use this. Whereas, if I use a regular ratchet in a tight spot or when it comes to ripping out old parts, I can't apply as much pressure and do not have to worry about slippage, but with this air ratchet will allow me to put a lot more pressure on the project to get the part out and fix and replace an old piece.
This is not a bad price (29.99)for an air ratchet as versatile as this one. You will be surprised at how much you will actually use this tool. Just because it is so easy to grab, this ratchet is the all around right tool for just about all jobs on your car, and making sure that you do not have to go back and search again for another pry bar or socket is what it is all about. Five stars for durability and versatility and  ease of use.  But, I would go out to buy this tool, just because you need this for your jobs and want to save time. You will be better off just sticking with your regular ratchet if you do not have the space for the head and an extension to fit into the area that you really need to do your job. This also has saved me on my wrists from getting sore from using a regular ratchet. If you remember that these need air tool oil then this should give you a long life of service.
