Crochet Hooks

hook used to crochet with

A crochet hook is a type of needle with a hook at one end used to draw thread through knotted loops. Only one crochet hook is needed to make crochet stitches. The crochet hook's earliest use appears to have been in the late 1700s or early 1800s.

Comfy Crochet Hooks

Everyone seems to have a different opinion on which crochet hook you should or shouldn't use.  Since everyone eventually develop their own style of crocheting I suggest when possible give all the brands a try.  I am an aluminum Wrights Boye Hooks   junkie, I love their hooks and to date have not really found another type that feels that good in my hand.  For me they are the right length and thickness plus I love what I call the "glide" that I get with their hooks when I am using yarn.  For thread projects I always use a Susan Bates  hook, the smaller size and head on the hook is curved just right so that it easily catches the thread and again the "glide" that I get with it makes the work go fast and smoothly.

Of course there is certainly a huge variety of other crochet hooks out there such as Brittany wood hooks, and for some reason I just could not really crochet as fast with, now this does not mean that you can't or that it isn't a good hook.  Next up is Clover brand crochet hooks, everything from bamboo to soft touch hooks, again I was unable to really make these work for me.  These are just a few brands of crochet hooks that I have tried but I just keep on going back to the Boye and Susan Bates because most of the time I am trying to get something finished either for a client or a late present so "glide" is a real important factor for me with a crochet hook.  Don't let my opinion stop you from trying a hook.
