An eco-themed novel for pre-teen/teen readers
1 review about Curse of the Bone Pirates

Great eco-themed work of juvenile fiction... for readers of all ages.

I'm not up on the latest in fiction for the pre-teen/teenaged crowd... have a vague sense that wizards and vampires rule the space, but that's about it. When I was offered a free copy of Curse of the Bone Pirates for review, though, I was intrigued... could a novel for younger readers present an environmental message while still keeping kids interested in the story?

In this case, I think the answer is "yes" (I'm way too old to say "yes" for certain). The story is fun, fast-paced, and full of supernatural elements, and the "green" concepts are woven into the story... no long-winded lectures by characters on the value of recycling. The book is set in on a South Pacific island, so using resources prudently makes total sense... and the main character, Big B (a Chicagoan) begins to see that as he interacts with new-found friends... and tries to get to the bottom of a mysterious illness that's overtaken his grandfather.

I wrote a longer review at sustainablog, so take a look if this sounds like something up your alley. I freely admit I really enjoyed the book... will be watching for the publication of the next installment.

Great review, I might have to get this for my niece. I'm always looking for kids books that can teach them something while entertaining them at the same time. Thanks for sharing :)
