It's just too late to go out & do any shopping on Black Friday. I'm too stuffed too eat anymore turkey, green bean casserole, or cranberry sauce although I'd like to think I could hold a bit more. Alright, it's time to get back to business & flesh out some more lyrics of the week for my music loving darlings who just can't seem to get enough. One can never get enough of a good thing, can we?

Then again, nothing is ever as good as it seems. Nothing. Not even me or my reviews & I'm sure I could do some really amazing & fierce things if I could only put my mind to it. The same can be said for all of us though, right? Gosh, don't I feel rather special or unique now???

OK, enough of my usual ranting here & let me share with you a very special song by a group that I've loved for years & still can't possibly live without. Sadly, this was not one of their biggest hits but I loved the atmosphere of this song & the lyrics just seemed to reach off the liner notes page as if to smack me in the face. It's as if Depeche Mode (or more specifically Martin L. Gore) were hand delivering a message to my heart if such a thing were even fathomable.

Home reminds me of the emptiness we all seem to feel & how loosely connected we all are. When I listen to the music, I can picture someone feeling a bit isolated or perhaps even lonely in their journey which somehow always seems to lead back home. But where is this place? Is there anyplace that really feels like home? What if you had never really known a family or had a place you could call home? What then?

I had recently met a young man who fit that description perfectly. He struck up a conversation just out of the clear blue one day while I was grabbing some snacks in a neighborhood convenience store. We talked for awhile & he conveyed a lot of these thoughts which seemed rather self-evident but I listened as he told me various stories about being passed around from one foster home to another & never really having a place to call home. He also confided in me how much he loved the military & that was the only place that he belonged. How sad.

Needless to say, the guy was extremely lonely & had nothing much to do so I invited to lunch & even picked up the tab. I didn't treat him to anything so fancy or extravagant but a plate of Volcano nachos from a local Taco Bell. We talked for a little while longer & then this song came to mind. I knew right away which song I should pick for my lyrics of the week. I am hoping you will find it in your heart to listen if you've never heard this one before. Thank you for dropping by.

Here is a song
From the wrong side of town
Where I'm bound
To the ground
By the loneliest sound
That pounds from within
And is pinning me down

Here is a page
From the emptiest stage
A cage or the heaviest cross ever made
A gauge of the deadliest trap ever laid

And I thank you
For bringing me here
For showing me home
For singing these tears
Finally I've found
That I belong here

The heat and the sickliest
Sweet smelling sheets
That cling to the backs of my knees
And my feet
But I'm drowning in time
To a desperate beat

And I thank you
For bringing me here
For showing me home
For singing these tears
Finally I've found
That I belong

Feels like home
I should have known
From my first breath

God send the only true friend
I call mine
Pretend that I'll make amends
The next time
Befriend the glorious end of the line

And I thank you
For bringing me here
For showing me home
For singing these tears
Finally I've found
That I belong here
