Dunkin' Donuts is the largest coffee and baked goods chain in the world providing customers, with high quality coffee, bagels, donuts and other baked goods since 1950. William (Bill) Rosenberg, founder, opened the first Dunkin' Donuts shop in Quincy, Massachusetts. Dunkin' Donuts licensed the first of many franchises in 1955. In 1946, Rosenberg founded Industrial Luncheon Services, a company that delivered meals and snacks to workers in the Boston area. The success of Industrial Lucheon Services convinced Rosenberg to start the Open Kettle, a doughnut shop in Quincy, Massachusetts. Two years later Open Kettle changed its name to Dunkin' Donuts.

Serving more than 3 million customers per day, Dunkin' Donuts sells 52 varieties of donuts and more than a dozen coffee beverages as well as an array of bagels, breakfast sandwiches and other baked goods. At the end of 2007, there were 7,988 Dunkin' Donuts stores worldwide, including 5,769 franchised restaurants in the U.S. and 2,219 internationally.

For years I shunned Dunkn Donuts.  I never found anything special about their coffee (so many people rave about it) which is no where as good as Seattle's Best or just about any New York Deli coffee (at least in many of these places I can choose exactly how much milk/half & half I put in my cup).  The donuts made me feel like I was eating sweet Play Doh (I am not a fan of the donut).      However, I have had to go there for members of my family and …

Where do I start, well how about a word on how I met Dunkin. When we came to the United States and settled in Massachusetts, my relatives who were already living here kept talking about Dunkin Donuts - specifically about the donuts, not the coffee. Primarily an east coast phenomenon.

The Dunkin' phenomenon was one of the more mystifying things about living in Boston. In a city where you're never more than a 15 minute walk from truly excellent coffee, 10 minutes from a quality bagel, or even 5 minutes from a Starbucks, I was never able to understand why people loved it so much. Yes, I'm giving Dunkin' Donuts a very high ranking (in fact, THE highest). Let me explain: I grew up in San Francisco where, as far as I know, there are no Dunkin' Donuts.
