Fedor Emelianenko vs Brett Rogers Strikeforce on CBS

***SPOILER (I guess)

I was really excited about this fight, a legend from Russia known as the Emperor vs an American fighter from the tough streets.  The hype and the prefight videos were great and CBS did a wonderful job showing us who these fighters really are and how they live.  The fight was exciting, as usual Fedor's opponent seemed to tower over him and looked like he out weighed him by 100 pounds.  As with any MMA fight especially at this level and weight class (heavy weights) being the Emperor, King or whatever means nothing one shot can finish the fight.  Right off the bat, in a quick exchange Rogers caught Fedor with a solid jab and cut his nose.  They continued to size one another up, with Fedor pursuing the larger Rogers.  Rogers and Fedor clinched up and Rogers pressed him against the cage for a few minutes.  Eventually, they separated and in a quick exchange Fedor nails him with a left sweeping hook (at about 2:40) and rocks the big Rogers.  They go to the ground with Fedor on top doing some ground and pound.  They separate and go back to the ground with Rogers on top in Fedor's guard and Rogers starts pounding on Fedor with heavy shots and it begins to look like a bad situation for Fedor he transition into a arm bar attempt.  The attempt is enough to get Rogers off of him and they end up with Fedor administering some ground and pound in Rogers' guard and that's how the round ends.

Second round starts and Fedor is pressing Rogers again, Rogers just can't find the time to bully Fedor.  They get against the cage and Fedor unloads with several heavy shots all seeming to be blocked by Rogers.  Rogers escapes and they continue to circle with Fedor pursuing.  Again against the cage with Rogers securing under-hooks and kneeing Feodor's thighs.  They separate from the clinch and both square up in the center of the cage, Rogers begins to throw a left cross/hook and BAM Fedor drops him with a quick right hook.  Rogers is not completely out but it's over, Fedor hesitates to see if the ref will stop it, and then pounces on him and goes in for the finish with a few shots.

The announcer's continue to talk about how Rogers had to punch first...over and over again.  The problem is that he did try to but Fedor is lighting quick and jumped in with a good old fashioned "Hay-maker".  Fedor as always is humble and appreciative.  However, Rogers is disrespectful (in my opinion) in his response to questions on the fight.  Camera goes to Rogers and he is mumbling to himself, shaking his head saying "This Sh*@ ain't happenin no more" about 3X's and then "F*@! that".  The commentator takes a few minutes with Rogers and that just adds insult to injury.  Instead of saying what all the people watching saw, he got me, he knocked me out, I look forward to a rematch, I appreciate Fedor agreeing to a rematch.  Which by the way, Fedor said yes to a rematch during his post fight interview.  Fedor is not obligated to rematch Rogers he just knocked this big guy out in the second round.  Instead of saying that, his response is basically the only reason he got knocked out is due to the fact he did not come out throwing punches, he did not believe in himself and he did not press Fedor. What a sorry excuse for a post fight interview, he tried to press Fedor but Fedor literally caught him, watch round one, he tried to get off the punches first but Fedor beat him to it. The believing in himself part, I watched a 30 minute prefight preview of him talking about what he was going to do to Fedor and talking on the phone to friends and family about the way he was going to bring it to Fedor.  The only reason he hit Fedor with the big jab in round one, cutting his nose, is that Fedor attacked him and missed with a hook to the chin.  Please watch the replay and tell me that Rogers is not throwing the punch first when he gets knocked out.  Amazing what you learn immediately after you get knocked out, you now know that you should have attacked Fedor while your eyes are rolling up into the back of your head.  Kick in the pants for me is that I like Rogers, I like his hard-knock life story and his commitment to his wife and kids.  I hate that fact that he gets a chance to fight a living Legend and gets knock out and responds with a bunch of excuses.  I don't expect him to be in awe of Fedor and bow to him, but if you want to do all that to him in the cage then do it, when he knocks you out....be professional and grateful that he is willing to fight you again.  I am well aware that MMA does not truly represent martial arts and that many of these guys are just big bullies who can fight and learn some techniques before hitting the pro circuit but it still frustrates me.  Good show by Fedor and Rogers.  Sorry I had more to say about the post fight then the actual fight.  But if you look at the fight there was not much to it, Fedor did get cut, Rogers administered a few seconds of ground and pound but all in all it was Fedor stalking, catching and knocking Rogers out.
