Flight is one of Sherman Alexie’s excellent young adult novels.  The primary character, Zits is a young Native American teen who has been shuttled between foster homes for most of his life.  Having fallen through the cracks, Zits finds himself a victim of the system.       Much of the first part of the story centers around his friendship with a young white male, who he meets in jail.  Justice introduces Zits to the idea of action through violence, and …

Fans of Kurt Vonnegut will read "Flight", by Sherman Alexie and wonder if Kurt transferred his greatness to a new generation. As in many of Vonnegut's novels, Alexie uses his narrator as a way to explore history and social issues. An exceptional novel, for story, for storytelling, and for getting into the head of a Native American. Alexie brings his magical word weaving to a tale of a boy whose life is changed by a flight through time and seeing through the eyes of others. You will believe every moment, and you will cheer for the ending.
