Classical music is making its comeback people. And it’s totally awesome.
There is this person, his name is Walt Ribeiro. I “met him” on twitter. At first he was just a friend of a friend, and mentioned my name in a tweet in response to a tweet I had sent to another friend. No big deal.
On a completely separate note, this summer I became completely obsessed with all that is Lady Gaga. So when I saw this gem of a youtube video posted on Perez Hilton, I was completely intrigued.
Pop music for orchestra. Need I say more? It was totally amazing and fun to listen to.
So it turns out, my friend of a friend Walt Ribeiro arranged this brilliant rendition of Gaga’s Poker Face. Walt is a composer and a music teacher, broadcasting his lessons on Ustream and Revision 3. He self-published his CD ‘1.1’ that was written for full orchestra.
On his website, http://www.fororchestra.com, he has published original songs (that are all free, free to use, free to mash up, licensed under Creative Commons) and his brilliant covers of pop songs, which are available to download for a $1.
He has done brilliant covers of popular pop artists including Bon Jovi, Marc Cohn, MGMT, Miley Cyrus and Michael Jackson’s Bad (not for sale)
I just went to his site and I sooooooooo wish that the LA Philharmonic would let him come and conduct the orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl next summer. Even coooler would be if the video was playing on the screen behind!! :) I think it would be a HUGE hit.
Yay, another Lady GaGa fan! My brother introduced me to this stuff a few months ago and I've been intrigued. I absolutely love it when classical musicians create works like this. Thanks for sharing, Aria! More people need to learn about this awesomeness :)
