The older style Weber Performer grill uses a large five pound tank to hold gas for igniting the charcoal. It wasn't uncommon for the tank to go five years or more between fill-ups, because it isn't used to cook with, just lighting the charcoal and turning it off.      So, it wasn't a bad tradeoff when Weber revised their popular Performer grill and changed to small, disposable propane tanks like those used in hand-held torches.
