Gap is an American clothing retailer started in 1969 in San Francisco by Donald Fisher. Currently, there are over 3,000 Gap stores around the world.
Gap tends to appeal toward a larger demographic with it's classic and basic apparel, however, they have recently lost of their consumer support due to a lack of a clear message.
Gap has also involved in a class action lawsuit in 2003 along with 21 other corporations who were being accused of bad labor practices in the treatment of employees in sweatshops. Since then Gap has made an effort to improve their ethics and has even been mentioned by Ethisphere as one of the "World's Most Ethical Companies."
Gap is currently a participant in product RED, and have contributed $45 million to the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

'Gone downhill as a reliable go-to' sums it up pretty well. I don't set foot in here anymore, after a couple of serious disasters and a horrifying, non-existent return policy. A pair of khakis (this used to be THE store for khakis!) went to hell in one wash. I got a "Sorry, we don't take things back if they've been washed." But it's unwearable junk, worse than Walmart... man has this place gone downhill - in a few ways: as a reliable go-to, as a powerhouse brand & as an iconic Amercian fashion staple. bummer.
