A Dark But Vivid Imagery

Warren Zevon was a clever song-writer. Although many of Warren's images conjure up death and violence, many of his songs are quite a bit intoxicating.

Genius: Best of Warren Zevon features 22 eclectic songs ranging from heavy rock n roll to light hearted ballads with many snappy arrangments. Just listen to the delightful Spanish flavored guitar stylings on Carmelita and you will understand what I mean. Mr. Bad Example is another creative number with a strong rhythm guitar presence. And of course I simply adore the Exciteable Boy selections, Poor Poor Pitiful Me, and the fabulous cover of A Certain Girl.

Yes, Sentimental Hygiene and Jeannie Needs A Shooter could have been included to replace two of the lesser tunes. And two songs may be a little too much for me. Truthfully, fifteen of them even approach greatness. Also, I would seek out Exciteable Boy instead as those nine tunes all really rule. This batch rates as a good greatest hits collection.
