I love love love Keith Urban's latest studio album, 'Get Closer.' I was slightly worried after hearing Keith discuss the project in interviews...I want people to be happy, but sometimes listening to nothing but sappy love songs can get a bit...well...vomit inducing. However, Keith pulled back from the over-obvious love ballads that made Defying Gravity, and went to the more free spirited love reminiscent of earlier albums 'Be Here' and 'Golden Road.'

This album holds much more twang than projects in the past. The banjo is evident and Keith's drawl is everywhere. There's a "Where the Blacktop Ends" feel to "You're Gonna Fly" and "Georgia Woods." It's songs like these that make me eager to see the music translate into Keith's live-energy show. There's definitely plenty of space to insert long and heavy guitar solo's with plenty of audience toe-tapping.

Although I'm not a huge fan of the shorter albums that seem to be popping out of the wood work, I do like that Keith gave options like a fuller version available at Target. And, if you're planning on purchasing 'Get Closer,' I recommend that you invest in the Deluxe version offered at Target. It contains a couple of awesome tracks, my favorite being "Luxury of Knowing," and some kick-butt live cuts from the 'Love, Pain, and Whole Crazy Thing' world tour. Fans have been begging for a live album, and this is a small taste to ease the desire.

Over all, 'Get Closer" is a FANTASTIC album...plenty of heart beating both fast n' rockin and the soulful ballads like "Without You." The more I listen to it, the more I love it...

Fantastic review - thanks for sharing (and welcome to Lunch!). I fell totally in love with Keith last week, based solely on his interview with Oprah. He even charmed my husband ; ) His love story with Nicole is just too sincere and sweet. Loved the song he performed on the show, and really looking forward to the rest of the album. Did you catch that show and hear him read his album cover letter to Nicole? Over the top -- borderline vomit-inducing actually, to coin your phrase! But still really touching, no way around it : )

I NEVER miss a Keith TV performance/interview, and I LOVE "Put You in the Song." it's fun, and will be great live. Keith's album liner notes are ALWAYS fantastic.
