You know how when it comes to books and movie adaptations of books, that people will often say "the book was better?" This is the opposite for the Ghost in the Shell manga and its anime film adaptation directed by Mamoru Oshii.

The Ghost in the Shell manga has a lot of interesting ideas, and is important for being the basis for the masterful Oshii film, but its execution was pretty damn lousy. There's plenty of goofy faces and chibi deformations that severely damage the serious, philosophical tone of the book, which also has some pretty grizzly scenery as well.

I'm just glad that Oshii turned his anime film adaptation into a totally serious effort while retaining the manga's philosophical nature.

I agree--the film is still one of the best anime films I have seen in recent years, and many have come to think that the manga was better. How did you feel about its sequel?.

Are you talking about the manga sequel or the movie sequel? I haven't read the manga sequel, so I can't really comment on that one, but I wasn't too thrilled with GITS 2: Innocence. Thanks for popping by, dude.
