I am a huge fan of photography and its application, especially nude photography, black and whites, and industrial. I have been taking pictures myself for years, but never as anything more than a tourist. I never really considered myself a photographer, just a lover of photographs and travel. I do however collect photography books and photographs. In fact my home is overflowing with pretty close to 100 photographs that I have blown up and framed in every room. The majority of the pictures are nude in nature with men and women, young and old, short and tall, fat and skinny. I love the celebration of life and love in photograph.

One of the many books that was purchased for me was a book that a good friend of mine from Australia found. She is a heavy pot smoker and felt like she should add to my collection of photography in her own special way. In her searches, she managed to find "Naked Girls Smoking Weed: Best of 420 girls". Now, to clarify, I have never smoked weed and don't ever plan on it. So for me to receive this book was somewhat funny but definitely interesting to say the least.

The Concept
The concept of the book is incredibly simple. It is 160 pages of women smoking or around weed. I am not exactly sure what started the sensation other than a website called 420 girls. Other than that, i'm not sure where the idea came from exactly. The entire book is softcore in nature, somewhat classy, if you can consider naked women around weed to be classy. The women are typically different than those I normally celebrate in art and for the most part are fake in every aspect of the word. However, regardless of how fake they are, the large majority of them are very attractive and nice to look at, even if the photography in the book itself is lacking because of their man-made perfection.

The book while for the most part is concerned with the actual photographs of women with weed, it does have a lot more content along with it. With each photograph, there is background information about weed. Sometimes this information is history, sometimes it is just a fact, other times it is just a thought, but definitely a lot more information than I had ever known about weed or any drug for that matter.

Another major negative of the book for me is that the pictures are in complete color. I typically avoid the color photographs with nudes, mostly because I am not focusing on the sexual aspect of the pictures as much as I am focusing on the artistic value of the photographs. I find that a nude isn't so much about the person being nude as it is about the person being nude in location. A black and white photograph tells so much more of a story than a color one does. The color really draws the eyes to a certain area, while black and white allows the imagination to run wild and create a concept for what the picture is meant to portray.

Regardless, the picture book does have merit as a major book that helps to support the legalization of Marijuana use around the world.

Final Thoughts
While the book has very little merit in terms of artistic value, it truly is an interesting coffee book that gets a great deal of attention whenever people look at my book collection. I guess if you are into that scene, then this book is perfect for you, however if you aren't a fan of weed, then you should probably avoid the book because you most likely aren't going to get the fascination in the first place.
