Sergei and Larry Tell All (Kind Of)
1 review about Google Speaks

So what's it really like on the inside?

  • Jul 3, 2010

Well, considering that I work at Google, I think I already know more about what it is like on the inside than what this book could tell me.  So the chapters about the offices and employees were a bit dull for me, but the background information and the stories about Larry and Sergei's growing pains as full-fledged businessmen were very interesting.  The stories behind the little details the author mentions (Google doodles, for example) are also unique little tidbits that make this book worthwhile.  The author uses a very readable style of writing and makes the technical explanations about the Google search engine easy to understand for anyone with the slightest knowledge of the internet.

I would recommend this book to absolutely anyone.  There are few people out there now who haven't had some sort of interaction with Google or are aware of the ubiquitous use of the brand as a verb.  So it's great for those who are curious as to how Google managed to suck us all in and capture such a large market share (yes, Google, I said it!  Market share!!) but it is also provides a great deal of food for thought for budding techie entrepreneurs.  And of course, the book answers the burning questions - how does Google make money?!  The facts and figures behind the search engine and the other Google products will astound you.

Although much like internet technologies themselves, one year later some of the information in this book is already outdated, it is overall an excellent read!
