Don't Even THINK About Buying This Computer!!!

I am so upset right now I could bang somebody in the head (my husband is now sitting in the living room avoiding me entirely).  I just bought a HP Pavilion g7 series Notebook PC 3 weeks ago; yes, you heard right, 3 freakin' weeks ago and never again will I purchase another HP product.

The day I bought it I was having problems with slow downloads and contacted the Support Chat.  After spending 20 minutes verifying my information, the procedures they told me to do about the downloads did not amount to a pinch of sh** and did not even apply to the problem.  I figure it is my broadband connection; it works great and surfing the web, etc. is fine and fast, but downloads are a little slow. Problem solved with that issue, but only because I figured this one out on my own.

Last night as I was Googling, the computer went black and would not start up correctly.  I had to hit the "On" button and it said since it would not start up correctly Windows would run a scan; it did, and it came up with nothing.  I tried scanning 2 more times and with no luck at all; Windows had no idea why I crashed.  It suggested I restore to an earlier date, which I have done many times on my old computer to make it run faster (and successfully I may add), but this computer would and could not restore to an earlier date.  My only other option was to restore to the original factory condition, which deletes ALL programs, files, pics, music, and EVERY damned thing.  I could not do a backup because I had no external hard drive to save it on, and did not have the money to go get one.  So after trying to decide what to do, I restored the whole thing. Everything gone.  At this point I'm pretty well pissed.  I design scrap kits and had purchased many items from online stores and downloaded and opened many zip files and saved to my Pictures.  Restoring meant that I spent all day today going back to the stores and downloading all my purchases again.  As I said before, downloading is a bit slow and it took me hours to do this, but I will try and be positive about this situation......until.......

...now------after finally downloading all my Programs, including Paint Shop Pro, Plug-ins for PSP, CamUnzip, Google Chrome (cause I hate IE),  AVG,, Filezilla (for my new online store) and then unzipping a trillion scrap kit purchases, I decide to get on PSP so  I can relax and make some designs.  I stick a CD that has some design graphics on it into the CD player, and........

....it would not read the CD.  It showed up as a blank CD and "how do you wish to burn this CD?" - oh hell no, this is not happening.  I put in another CD, then another, and the same thing; it will not read a CD.  I get online to chat with Customer Support........

After another 20 minutes of verifying my information, I firstly told them about the restoration that had to be done, and then they proceed to give me instructions on using the Device Manager.  I had to uninstall the CD/DVD driver and reinstall it; this was easy and did not take long to do, but lo and behold it still does not work.  Then they had the nerve to ask me if I was inserting a BLANK CD as if I am an idiotic breeze brain and I won't tell you my response to that question.  They told me to insert a music CD (I guess to make sure I was not dumb enough to try and read a blank CD) and it wouldn't read that either. Now they give me a link instructing me on how to manually take out the battery, remove and reinstall the whole driver.  No---I am NOT gonna do this.  For one thing, if I mess something up (even though it does not look hard to do) then it's on me.  For another, this computer is only 3 weeks old; it should not have crashed, and it should read the CD for God's sake.  I am taking this thing back tomorrow and that's the end of it.  Well, not really......

...I got a follow up email from HP Support sending me the link again, and was instructed that if that doesn't work, I will need to restore my computer back to factory defaults.......excuse me, but didn't I just do that last night after the crash?  

My old computer, a Lenova, bless it's heart, was purchased 5 years ago, and never once did I have problems with it, never had to contact Support; all has been fine with it.  But it is not an expensive one and did not have the memory and all and was starting to really slow down which was why I bought this one.

In the meantime, I need to burn my purchases on a CD, restore this one back to factory condition again as I am taking it back tomorrow.  After doing all I had to do today, I have smoked enough ciggies to give me lung cancer.  it will be back to square one with another new one tomorrow I guess.

I gave this a +2 rating because, well, it IS pretty..........

ugh. I am trying to look at the info in amazon but for some reason, it is not showing up. I have a HP desktop myself and it runs beautifully from the time I bought it almost 4 years ago. I hope you backed up your files. Sounds like you may gotten a lemon or something. I am just lucky that my friends are tech wizards when it comes to computers, so any issues I don't need to call support. I take it it runs on Windows 7?

Yes, Windows 7; when I checked the HP help forum, there were a zillion unhappy customers with the same issues as me with the G series. It crashed on me again last night so I took it back this morning. I only had 15 days to return it, I had it for 17 days but they refunded me anyway; they knew I was pissed. I went and bought an Acer so wish me luck!! My Lenova I have had for 5 years and never gave me any trouble at all. It still runs, just slow because of the memory and stuff. I could not back up any files when it crashed because I had no external hard drive to save them to, and everything got wiped out. Spent all day yesterday replacing everything, then it crashed again on me last night. I heard from a couple of people that the G series sucks -- evidentally you don't have that series of HP. Glad yours is running good!!
