An album by Alastair Ross, Anthony Rolfe Johnson, Catherine Robbin, Charles Brett, English Baroque Soloists, George Frederick Handel, John Eliot Gardiner, and Margaret Marshall
This recording of Messiah highlights is an excellent example of the lighter, more baroque sound that we now prefer for Handel. The recordings of the late 20th century, with their all-forte choruses, are not as beautiful and delicate as this. However, the soloists were disappointing to me. If you like Kathleen Battle, Samuel Ramey, Sofie von Otter, and other big voices on the Messiah arias, the voices on this recording will seem inadequate.
