Things Don't Need To Be On A Beach To Be Hot And Steamy.

What ever happen to the good old days when the women would do the washing and ironing. Plus, what about, when the kids were taught to iron their clothes and take pride in what they wear and look like, when they leave their house for school each day. When I was growing up, my mom taught me to iron everything so that when I grew up I could take care of myself and look half way decent. Trying to get kids now a days to think this way is the ever impossible dream. But, if you are able to get your kids to do the ironing then do not stop, keep them going no matter what you have to tell them to get the job done. You may think that this is a hilarious sight but just give them a can of spray starch and make a game of it and it may work. Even so you will need a good iron to do this with, and this iron from Hamilton Beach it just what the doctor ordered.

Description
This iron weighs 3 pounds and 2 ounces full of water, it is 12" tall, 6" from the front to the back, and 4 5/8" from side to side. The hot plate on the bottom is 8 ½" x 4-5/8", there is also 35 steam ports that are 3/16" in diameter. The overall color is silver and black and there is a see through water reservoir between the handle and the body.

It is hard to find ones with a retractable cord but this one has that, and it is located in the bottom of the housing. You can also use this to give your clothes a shot of steam while they are still on the hanger. With just a push of a button a shot of steam will come out and hit your garment. There is an adjustable laver that will allow you to set the amount of steam that will come out. This iron will automatically shut off after 1 hour. All you will have to do is reset the iron by depressing the red reset button and you will have another hour of work time.

Hamilton Beach has equipped this iron with an eight foot power cord and push button to let the cord retract inside of the base so that the cord does not get tangled up while not in use. They have also installed a dial that will allow you to regulate how heat is going to the hot plate. The settings include cotton and linens, rayon and wool, polyester, silk and acrylic, and nylon.

Experience
We have been using this iron for several months and did notice a big improvement in the way that it is working over that of our old one. This one uses a lot of water when you are using the steam to get wrinkles out of garments or curtains as to using it for ironing alone. We have been using it every day and have not had to reset the iron one time.

We did notice that the steam that comes out of the bottom is extremely hot and you can get burned if you are not careful. The other thing that we noticed was that if we were not careful with the heat setting we would melt or scorch the garment that we are ironing. If your clothing starts to stick to the bottom of this iron then you have it set too hot. Kids above a certain age will love this because of the ease of use that this has. They can spray a nice light stream of mist out onto the clothes and just go back and forth until the wrinkles are gone.

You can also show them how much better their clothes looked than when they are not ironed. Our daughter loves to iron ever since we showed her how. We started out by letting her do things like hankies and washcloths and pillow cases. Then we started to let her experiment on all of her shirts but nothing too difficult.

This only comes with a limited warranty that lasts only one year, but if you look on the bottom you can see a few 1-800 numbers stamped into the casting. This way if you lose your paper work you will always have someone to call if this should stop working.

Conclusion
Unlike our old iron this one has the advantage of giving a blast of steam without removing the garment from the hanger or curtains from the rod. This will save you time and money at the cleaners. I highly recommend getting one of these especially the one that has the retractable cord option.
