Colonel Hans Landa is the primary antagonist of the 2009 Quentin Tarantino film Inglourious Basterds, portrayed by German actor Christoph Waltz.
Standartenführer (Colonel) Hans Landa is a cruel and ruthless, but charming, polyglot and diabolically intelligent Austrian SS officer in the Sicherheitsdienst, who is nicknamed "The Jew Hunter" in reference to his keen ability to locate Jews hiding throughout France. Besides German, he speaks at least English, French and Italian. He is a high ranking member of the National Socialist German Workers (Nazi) Party holding the rank of Standartenführer (Colonel) in the SS. Despite his several loyalty awards in the SS, Landa does not believe in Nazi ideology and by the end of the film he is revealed to be driven by ambition, and gladly switches sides over to the winning party when opportunity strikes.
Landa is still punished for his actions by Aldo, who carves a Swastika on his skull, a trademark his soldiers do for the few Nazis spared.
