Back when it was acceptable to smear glitter gel on your eyelids and don baby tees, rimming your eyes with Hard Candy's glitter eye pencils was supposed to be a good thing. I'm ashamed to say that I still use Hard Candy glitter eye pencils (I prefer their basic black streaked with silver glitter; I think it's called Cyber), and have been for the past decade.
But! I'll make my case here: Like Chanel nail polish in Vamp, this is a genuine beauty staple. It's the only piece of makeup I know that uses glitter to subtle, glamorous results that don't scream "pixie fairy" or "Tori Amos." It's subtle enough that you can wear out during the day, rather than a rave circa 1995. I think it has to do with the glitter granules, which are finer than what you'd see at a craft store. The pretty, dark effects of Hard Candy's glitter pencils wouldn't be out of place on the set of a 1920s Hollywood film.
Which is why I was sad to see that Sephora.com has discontinued selling the glitter eye pencils. Rest assured I will be stocking up.
