The best case really depends on your intended use, and what sort of coverage you'd like. I'm a fairly careful person, I've owned my 3G for over 2 years without requiring a case, but with the iPhone 4 primarily glass design, I've been considering one. It should be noted that I fall into the anti-case camp for most devices, with the sole exception being my camera. If you're looking for protection, I would look to something in the silicone wrap family of cases — examples being Griffin's Outfit Ice, FlexGrip, or Motif, (http://www.griffintechnology.com/device_types/iphone/devices/iphone4) or Incase's Slider Case (http://www.goincase.com/products/category/iPhone+4). Both offer a bit of shock absorption and a sturdier feel, should you feel the need. This type of case also tends to make it a bit more difficult to slip the phone in and out of your pocket, so you should keep that in mind if you intend to pair the case with tight jeans or small pockets. The other option, the one I ultimately went with, is the low-profile case, that offers minimal protection from drops and the like, but stays true to the iPhone form factor. These cases tend to cover the back of the phone in its entirety, but don't always cover the full perimeter of the antenna. They're usually hard, and have very minimalistic style cues. I got the Incase Snap Case from Apple's free case programs, but other similar ones come to mind, such as Griffin's Reveal, Apple's Bumper, or a new favourite, the Default Case (https://defaultcase.com/). The last option is available free, for a limited time only, you just have to pay for shipping. Happy hunting!
