Ticket prices for concerts and sporting events will never come down until consumers wise up!

Remember $4.00/gallon gasoline?  It was not so long ago but that this seemed to be the magic figure that caused many Americans to substantially curtail their driving.  But alas, the same cannot be said for outrageous ticket prices for concerts and professional sporting events.  Ticket prices for these events continue to escalate and from where I sit there appears to be no end in sight.

Both of my parents were teenagers during the Great Depression.  As such, they and most of their generation were very cautious about how they spent their hard earned dollars.  They demanded value for their money!   Their offspring, the so called "Baby Boomers", threw caution to the wind and spent money like drunken sailors.  If they wanted something they bought it.  Lots of people in my generation think nothing of paying $300 or $400 for a pair of tickets to see a concert or go to a game.
And this tradition of free spending seems to have been passed down to subsequent generations.
It has gotten to the point where I don't even think about going to any of these events.  I hate walking into a stadium or arena knowing that I am getting ripped off at every turn.  I'd rather stay home!

Want to solve the endless cycle of higher and higher prices for concerts, sporting events and even movies?  Stay at home once in awhile!   Be a bit more discriminating about how you spend your money. The economics of all this really isn't all that complicated folks.  If demand for a product declines then prices will inevitably fall.  It's just that simple.  I would hope that one day people would once again demand value for their money.   I mean  $200 to see a regular season NBA game......I believe I'll pass.

I agree with you...especially about sporting events. A concert feels different since I won't have unlimited chances to see a particular band in my city, but paying the same price for a regular season NBA game seems a bit crazy. I think many teams/venues are going to struggle in the coming seasons due to the economy and the way that many people are rethinking their free spending ways. Great review!
