Hilary Hahn is one of the most exiting young Classical Violinist playing today, she started playing about four years of age and graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music at the age of 17.
She was first signed to the Sony label where she made five recordings, then she was signed to the Great Classical label Deutsche Grammophon.
This CD was published in 2003 and contains two solo Violin concertos, the Concerto for two Violins and a concerto for Violin and Oboe by the German Baroque Master Johann Sebastian Bach.
Hilary Hahn is a superb Violinist, she has Virtuoso technique, perfect intonation a rich, smooth tone full of nuances and her performances always has that perfect balance of high intellect and deeply felt emotions.
All this makes her the perfect Bach player because his music is full of intelligent music patterns that also expresses deeply felt emotions but are also so harmonious and in ballance. Bach is one of the Great Geniuses of music history.
On the CD she plays with Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra conducted by Jeffrey Kahane. Margaret Batjer plays Second Violin in the concerto for two Violins and Allan Vogel plays the oboe.
The interpretations on this disk are full of light and youthful energy, she plays the concertos on the fast side which I think is perfect and the playing is full of variety and nuances in tone and articulations.
I have many recordings of these masterpieces, these Concertos are one the best pieces of music ever composed, and Hahn´s version is my favorite. I bought this disk in 2003 and Im constantly playing it, the music is so expertly composed that you never get tired of it and Hahn performance is always a delight.
Hahn has a wonderful web page where she often posts journals from the road and it is fascinating to get an insight into the live of the travelling musician. (
