When I first started listening to "Inner Voices", I found the music to be warm, soothing, and inviting. However, as I listened in the car, I found myself becoming more and more irritated. I decided to listen more closely and see why this was, as it rarely happens. The basic themes are lovely, but Asbjornson repeats all of them far too many times - usually in the middle register and then up an octave, often coming back and repeating the pattern again. And again. The pieces never really develop beyond being a few melodic measures that are repeated and connected to another melodic phrase which is also repeated. And repeated again. And again. I found that after listening to the CD a few times, I couldn't listen to it anymore. Asbjornson obviously has a gift for sweet and simple melodies, but he needs to develop them in different ways so that the pieces on the CDs aren't so repetitious. Taking some of the pieces one at a time could be a pleasant experience, but when every track on the CD follows exactly the same pattern, it becomes annoying at best.
