Desert playground in Southern California

Joshua Tree National Park is a desert playground for persons of all ages. It is conveniently located about 2 hours from Los Angeles and contains thousands of unusual rock formations that are popular among amateur rock scramblers and professional rock climbers.

My favorite visit involves entering the park from the northwest and winding down Park Boulevard towards the southeast, all while stopping at cool sites like Hidden Valley, Barker Dam, Keys View, Cap Rock, etc. Then, I take Pinto Basin Road south towards Cottonwood Spring where i spend the rest of the day cooling off under the shade of countless fan palms. Stopping at Palm Springs for dinner or a drink caps off a perfect day trip to one of Southern California's best-kept secrets!

I always pass by this park on the way to June Mountain. That is a pretty beautiful drive. Oh and there is this amazing bakery along the way, past Joshua Tree, Erick Schat's Bakery ... they have the most delicious breads. Just thinking about it is making me hungry!
