My review is based on a free copy received from the author but reflects my own honest opinion. This book centers around an underground internet "service" where one can get buy anything they want to murder, rape, torture, etc. run by the mysterious Sandman. Michael Sykora's partner Sean gets wind of this operation when he is hired to torture and kill a woman (Maria). Sean violates his big rule and gets involved with Maria and decides to protect her and go after those who wanted her dead.
Sean and Mcihael provide their own service in that they are both private investigators and hitman for hire (note: they only kill bad people). They soon realize the type of organization that Sandman is behind and know that it will take careful planning and determination to have a chance to bring the Sandman down.
I really tried to like this book a lot more but it reads a lot like a low budget action film. The two seem like a team-up from the old 1970's films like the ones that would star Jim Brown and Fred Williamson. The author goes overboard in descriptions of torture and revenge. You wonder how they can remain under the radar from both the police and the bad guys.
It is scarry that such an organization as Morpheus (Sandman's organization) could exist and based on the way it is portrayed it is probably based on something real (think the underground fights in garages portrayed in the movie Lionheart). The book does try hard to keep the reader engaged and some of the book is well written but the overall plotting is just too weak to give it more than three stars.
