Too fast, too slow, but never just right.

The 405 at rush hour.  Just a simple phrase right?  Well not if you have lived or visited California for any length of time.  One thing all Angelinos seem to agree upon is their shared hatred for our busy, poorly constructed, and tedious freeways.    As an L.A. native, I have come to dread freeway driving like going to the dentist.  If there is not an accident thats holding everyone up, then there will surly be a traffic jam.  This is not just negative thinking, this is dealing with the facts.  I have a theory that I would like to present that involves the type of drivers that frequent LA road ways.  There are three types that I have observed.

1.This Porridge is too hot!-  Your doing 85 mph on one of those rare traffic free days and your looking around to make sure their are no cops trying to meet their quotas.  Things are good, the road is clear and the highway is yours.  Then, from out of no where a black Porsche enters your line of vision in the rear view mirror.  The driver is in his late forties and balding, and load techno music emanates from his stereo. Mid life crisis on wheels.  He soon over takes you doing at least 105, and almost takes out a family SUV in the process.  At this point you have to remind your middle finger to stay put.

2.  Too cold !-  The turtle wins the race.  This may be a truism in other cities but in L.A. ! You have places to be and the Toyota Camery (not hating I drive a Toyota), is going 15 miles under the speed limit with their left blinker on.  "Good, she is going to make a left" you think.  Just as you try to make a pass on the right hand the camery creeps slowly to the left almost sending the both of you to that great mead hall in the sky.  You give the driver a dirty look, and notice she is on a cell phone, and applying make up in tandem.

3. Just right.  Don't we all think that we are the missing link when it comes to driving?  I know I do.  Even when I am wrong, I am right.  I know how silly that is and sounds, but I also suspect that this is the case with most L.A. drivers.  Maybe if we can all look at our driving a little more objectively we could have friendlier, more efficient, and dare I say pleasant road ways?

Happy travels
