All hair dye is made up of two components - a developer and a colorant. The developer serves as an oxidizing agent - it activates the colorant and allows it to penetrate the hair cuticle. The colorants are pigments that saturate your hair. All permanent and nonpermanent haircolors can darken and change your tone; however, only permanent haircolor can also lighten your natural tone.

You can buy this product at any drugstore or beauty supply place. This process is done at home by mixing the colorant and the developer together in the supplied bottle and applied to your hair evenly. The color stays on for a set amount of time and then you wash it out of your hair.

A great alternative to pricey hair salons

I have been dyeing my hair for 14 years. I started out with burgundy, was blonde somewhere in the middle, and am now back to a deep red shade. Thus, I have much experience with home hair coloring and have used just about every brand out there.
