Learning to walk again, after breaking your leg!

After recovering pretty well over the past 6 1/2 weeks since breaking my right leg, I've come to a crossroads.  I was moved to a half cast (walking cast) a little over two weeks ago at the 4 week point and I was told to gradually begin to walk.

Here was my doctors timeline for my recovery:

Week 1-4: No weight on my leg at all, stay in full cast.
Week 4: Move to half cast (walking cast) and, but still put no pressure on my leg.
Week 5: Begin to slowly add weight (with help of both crutches), but stop when you feel any pain.
Week 6: Same as above, but use one crutch.
Week 7: Try to walk slowly, without the use of crutches.
Week 8: Remove walking cast and begin rehab to walk normally.

Right now I'm at about 6 1/2 weeks and I'm kind of confused.  I can put weight on my leg without any pain with two crutches, but not with one crutch.  It's not that I feel pain when I only use one crutch, but I feel like I'm banging my leg on the ground and I can't help feeling that I'm going to do more damage and maybe even re-break my leg.  When I asked the doctor about this, she said it's really up to me and that I should just "use pain as my guide".  That's a little scary if you ask me.  So at the moment I'm being cautious.

Has anyone else got any experience with this same situation?
