Susan Torres is a hero to single mothers every where. The title of the book is a reference to the fact that she owned only three spoons to feed her four children. She raised four kids on her own. Her two oldest daughters have careers in fashion and education. She also has a nineteen year old son who is studying engineering, and a third daughter who is a good high school student. She witnessed drug abuse and experienced physical abuse early in life. I am amazed by the courage she possessed to endure and survive these experiences. I am inspired by her determination to improve her life. She earned bachelors and masters degrees in English in her forties. Her education led to a long career in teaching high school English.
She also writes about her two failed marriages. Her marriages remind me to find a woman who will love and accept the way I am. I am in my forties and still trying to achieve financial stability and a stable relationship. .Even though I have a physical disability, I believe I can reach greater financial independence and someone to love. This book forces me to think about the direction of my own life path. My life is slowly going in a direction that I am happy with. .I volunteer helping homeless people find jobs. I also act in plays on the stage. I hope to perform in a play this November about the homeless situation in Hawaii. I hope my play will be successful. Living On Three Spoons is a memoir that motivates me to keep making new goals in my life.
