The compact mat cutter is easy to use. All it takes is a few practice cuts to get the feel for the right pressure and you're off and running. Once you've mastered the straight cuts, it's time to get fancy and add designer cuts to the mats. Using the mat cutter to make your own mats reduces the cost of buying pre-cut mats. It's easy to find mat scraps at all framing stores or buying in bulk is another great cost saving option.

Whoooa, I didn't know mat cutters came with fancy, designer cuts, too! I've been using Fiskars decorative cut scissors to cut fancy edges. I do photography, too, and have been looking for a mat cutter anyways, so this might just be the one. Thanks for sharing! :)

ohhhh--- I am in need of a new cutter. I am currently nursing one of those cheapies (you know the one-- has the little orange cutter blades you get at like Target). Do you use this for scrapbooking? I am a huge scrapbooker so I am in need of a durable cutter for sure.
