Lowland Single Malts are single malt whiskies distilled in the lowlands of Scotland. The region, once having a number of whisky producers, now only has three operating distilleries: Glenkinchie, near Edinburgh; Auchentoshan, near Clydebank; and Bladnoch in Galloway. At least six other lowland single malts are still available, but are no longer distilled, Rosebank, Kinclaith, St. Magdalene, Ladyburn, Inverleven and Littlemill.

Traditionally Lowland Single Malts are triple distilled (though this has not been true of all of them), often giving them a lighter taste.

A little sweet for me but still a great scotch - Auchentoshan 12 Year Scotch
Auchentoshan scotch from the Lowlands is not a heavy peaty scotch.  So if your into the Islay peaty types this one will not please you.   This is a single malt scotch that is triple distilled and has a honey color.   You will notice a toffee like scent with a little almond also.   So you know this will not be peaty.  No iodine smell here.  There is a distinct citrus taste at first and then you will notice an after taste with a kind of dry nutty flavor.  Not one …

Glenkinchie™ is one of my favorite single malt scotches!!!  I came to this much sought-after single malt through allot of years of drinking blended scotch whiskeys like Johnnie Walker Black.  However, one has to work their way up to this smoky taste.  Among single malt scotch aficionados, Glenkinchie ™ is a light, delicate whisky; sweet and creamy with a subtle floral fragrance. It became one of my favorites because I usually smoke cigars when I am drinking scotch.  …

Lowland Scotch has its moments but lacks the character of the other regions. Of course there is always exceptions.
