I met Marty on Zillow.com last summer (2008) when we were about buy our first home. He was one of a dozen or so who replied to my mortgage rate request on Zillow. His rates and fees were competitive to others and I liked the fact he worked directly for a large bank. I didn't want to work with a broker who might get me a low rate at some failing bank. I have to say, he was my LUCKY find.
Last year, we put him to the daunting task of closing in 15 days. The seller wanted a quick close. However, due to the seller's fault, we fell out of escrow. For about a year we continue to look and Marty continued to inform us of current rates and latest news.
Last week we bought our first home without a glitch. Thanks to Marty we closed 3 days early, in 27 days!!
Here are some of the highlights
Dedication: When we were just about to go into escrow, Marty reported rates dropped. We wanted to take advantage of the rate drop and lock the rate. He worked until mid night to make this happen. And it turned out, the rates started to go up the next day. Does your mortgage broker work that hard for you? I was very impressed by his dedication to his clients.
Responsiveness: I've read on forums how their broker doesn't respond. I know how frustrating that can be, especially when you are under pressure to get things done on time. I have communicated numerously with Marty over the course of our loan application until close via email, and he responds no later than one hour and within 5 minutes 95% of the time.
Good rates and No hidden costs: Since it had been a year since I got a GFE from various brokers on Zillow, I did a spot check to make sure Marty's rates were still competitive. (Sorry Marty) I checked with Wells Fargo and the rates were the same but their fees were higher. At closing, there was no hidden cost that bit us.
Overall, I had a great success working with Marty. I read some horror stories on Redfin forums. If anyone needs a mortgage loan officer, check out Marty at Bank of America.
