You get used to something and then it changes and always, there is griping about it. And don't people just love to gripe about Vista? They do.

But there I was, with nothing nice to say in an Amazon review about Microsoft Vista back in early 2007. Although my computer was adequate to the upgrade, the software was cumbersome to install, putting it mildly.

But that was then and this is now. Upgrading from XP to Vista is no longer the chore it was, and buying a new system with Vista already installed is simply plug-and-play happy time. At least it was on the two computers I've bought since 2007 (it was time for a new laptop and the desktop blew up...NOT Vista's fault).

All of my peripherals work fine, even old scanners and printers. All of my software works fine, although I don't use software from 1998 like some people might, as I am inclined to keep all important production software up-to-date.

As with any operating system upgrade -- whether on a PC or a MAC -- there is exploring to be done to learn about improvements, and perhaps (probably) drivers that will need to be updated. It's painless, I promise.

Vista is a lovely thing. I'm particularly fond of the Photo Gallery, which I use to organize my photos instead of using the Adobe Photoshop organizing tools. It's just more straightforward and less heavy-handed.

And the best part -- this is not an exaggeration -- I haven't seen the Blue Screen Of Death in more than two years now. Ahhhhh, that computes. -- Enjoy!

I much prefer XP. Vista is very unstable and hangs quite a bit. Hopefully Windows 7 would be a big improvement! I'm looking forward to that! Thanks for the review!

Hi there, Meg! I just referred @Valsviews to your review here on Microsoft Vista. He has just written a review on a very informative (and simple) book called Mastering Windows Vista Business: Ultimate, Business, and Enterprise that I thought you might be interested in if you ever have problems with your OS in the future.
